MARRIAGE

What is marriage? Why marry? Who created marriage? Is everyone meant to marry? Is co-habiting marriage? What is God’s instruction manual for marriage? Who is the Head of the home?

The First marriage recorded in the BIBLE is that between Adam and Eve. God saw that it was not good for man to be alone, and so created Woman from the rib of man. God made a female from a male. God made the WIFE to be her Husband’s helper, his companion, lover and friend; And since God created Marriage, He drafted out instructions that guide the institution of Marriage and married people. Marriage is BEAUTIFUL. It is unique and great by nature and was designed by God to bring out the Best in married couples. Married people should first have their foundation in Christ for their marriage to work. Why? Because a product cannot function effectively with the functionalities from another manufacturer: God created Marriage and you can only have a beautiful marriage in God and not outside the instructions in His manual.

Marriage is a union, a oneness: in God’s instruction manual, He says ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall become united and cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.’ Genesis 2:24

Marriage is a Covenant. ‘Yet you ask, Why does He reject it? Because the Lord was witness [to the covenant made at your marriage] between you and the wife of your youth,….’ Malachi 2:14

God is serious about Marriage. ‘Let marriage be held in honor (esteemed worthy, precious, of great price, and especially dear) in all things. And thus let the marriage bed be undefiled (kept undishonored); for God will judge and punish the unchaste [all guilty of sexual vice] and adulterous.’ Hebrews 13:4

God created Marriage. ‘In the same way you married men should live considerately with [your wives], with an intelligent recognition [of themarriage relation], honoring the woman as [physically] the weaker, but [realizing that you] are joint heirs of the grace (God’s unmerited favor) of life, in order that your prayers may not be hindered and cut off. [Otherwise you cannot pray effectively.]’ 1 Peter 3:7

From God’s Word, you will find out that He created and intended marriage to be between a Man and a Woman, ‘But because of the temptation to impurity and to avoid immorality, let each [man] have his own wife and let each [woman] have her own husband‘ 1 Corinthians 7:2; God is instructive and serious about marriage. He Loves us so much that He gives us instructions on how to live a life of beauty and holiness before Him. He is Holy and cannot behold sin. He is GOD. He made Us, so He knows what is Best for Us.

What Happens On the Bed?

Union, Healing, Communion happens.

‘For the wife does not have [exclusive] authority and control over her own body, but the husband [has his rights]; likewise also the husband does not have [exclusive] authority and control over his body, but the wife [has her rights].’ 1 Corinthians 7:4

‘Even so husbands should love their wives as [being in a sense] their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself.’ Ephesians 5:28

However, let each man of you [without exception] love his wife as [being in a sense] his very own self; and let the wife see that she respects and reverences her husband [ that she notices him, regards him, honors him, prefers him, venerates, and esteems him; and that she defers to him, praises him, and loves and admires him exceedingly]. [I Pet. 3:2.]

IS EVERYONE MEANT TO MARRY?

A good answer is found in the BIBLE,

‘For there are eunuchs who have been born incapable of marriage; and there are eunuchs who have been made so by men; and there are eunuchs who have made themselves incapable of marriage for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let him who is able to accept this accept it.’ Matthew 19:12
