Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Psalm 127:3
Have you told your children about JESUS? Do they know who He is, what He did for them? If the schools don’t give this training, and you do not tell them either, what life would they lead? The training you give them when they are little and bow-legged is the training that will guide them when they are much older and need guidance. So, you have got to train them right the first time: you cannot afford to train your child in the wrong and not so proper things.
At the early stage of a child’s life, they are pure at heart and quick to assimilate reactions, actions and habits. They watch you even when you are not watching yourself. It is a crucial stage for them and this is when you should start training them in the things of God; teach them who Jesus is. Teach them to pray and sing praises to God; teach them to be obedient and believe in themselves. Buy a kiddies Bible and read each story out to them daily. Buy some coloured pencils, some Biblical cartoons and let them feed on these edifying things; get them involved in children church activities.
Teach them to pray for their teachers, family, friends, the sick children, poor people and the church (the Body of Christ). The Bible clearly says, ‘ Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it.’ Proverbs 22:6
‘Fathers, do not irritate and provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to resentment], but rear them [tenderly] in the training and discipline and the counsel and admonition of the Lord.’ Ephesians 6:4
Children do what they see their parents do, and if continued, these actions become their way of life. If they see their parents pray every day, they will learn to pray everyday and when they leave home, it sticks with them. Children that grow up in Godly homes make Godly homes, and in many cases they make the right decisions in life. They choose right, talk right, and act right: they do not make costly and unruly decisions that hurt their parents/ loved one’s when they are older.
When children are young, you are their idol: they want to please you and want to be loved by you. Teach them right and they will make you proud and happy when they are older.
